Talk to Melinda Metz’s Paw

If you love cats you will love this book. If you love modern Cinderella stories where the reader sees what the characters don’t see and you can’t turn the pages fast enough to know if they ever get out of their way and allow nature to take its course, then you you will love this story. If you are a reader who simply enjoys a quick read, full of engaging and credible characters, Talk To The Paw will appeal to you.

MacGyver is Jamie Snyder’s cat. Well, he’s actually “the man of her life.” She trusts him, trusts him, and since she swore to real men as partners, MacGyver is her number one. MacGyver isn’t convinced his human is really done with men … he can smell their loneliness. Whether Jamie knows it or not, MacGyver knows that his human needs companionship that he cannot provide. Surprisingly, MacGyver notices that his neighbor, David, exudes the same smell as his Jamie. Could it be that you both sit alone and differ in a scent that only the cat recognizes?

MacGyver (the TV character) could have been top-notch, he can do, he can do anything with anything. But the Macgyver cat is a loyal, loving, and capable cat that resorts to becoming a cat thief to help its human. Jamie’s neighbor David recently lost his wife Clarrissa and despite the urging of his friends, he is simply not ready to leave his mourning behind. He has a dog named Diogee who has no idea that his human is alone. MacGyver seems to be the only one, human or pet, who recognizes how perfect Jamie and David could be together. All it takes is a push. Then the cat starts stealing David’s clothes … a sock here, a towel there. Jamie also realizes who the strange pieces of clothing belong to, but sees David simply as a friend. MacGyver is like “what’s wrong with these people?” “Why do humans complicate something that is so natural in the animal world?”

Can Jamie and David look beyond their personal problems and see the big picture in front of them? Or are they meant to complicate what should happen so naturally?

MacGyver the cat will conquer you quickly. You will be silently encouraging the humans in the story to become as smart as the cat. Her loyalty and dedication to Jamie are admirable and positively lovable. Talk To The Paw is a quick read, keeping you warmly wrapped in the story right down to the last page.

I loved the story. Being a cat lover, with four of the adorable, distant and highly intelligent fur babies at home, Talk To The Paw made me wonder if they smell my feelings too. (They sure act like this!)

Happy reading,
