Dota 2 Vs Heroes of the Storm Vs League of Legends

This is not a new thing, you can google and find a lot of the same topics like; Dota 2 vs LoL, Dota 2 vs Heroes of the Storm, HoS vs LoL … etc.

But most people don’t like to read long paragraphs just to learn a small amount of information … I am among them! I don’t like word salads on these topics, so I’ll cut to the chase and try to make it as short and useful as possible.

First, you must understand that these 3 games are very different from each other despite belonging to the same genre: MOBA. And these 3 MOBA games are perfectly fun and the most popular of their genre. And therefore, it is very normal that you love one of them much more than the other 2. However, it is not normal to speak ill of two others that you do not like as much as your favorite. Do not do it! You look like an idiot when you do that, so stop for your own good!

Don’t even read paragraphs that start like: “This is the best, that’s the worst …”, “It’s not even worth comparing the answer is clear …”, “This is just a copy of that … ” … etc. Just run away from stupid content, your brain deserves it!

Now here, I will try to share my thoughts with you.

Dota 2 Features:

* All heroes are unlocked

Thanks for this valve! This is really cool, I hate the way other companies sell heroes. Yes, we don’t have to spend our real money but, in this case, we have to spend hours and hours playing the game and spending a large amount of money in the game to unlock a hero to play. Dota 2 allows us to play with all available heroes at no cost, that is a great advantage. Don’t forget, you can still support the purchase of amazing skins.

* Reward / Punish

Compared to LoL and HoS, Dota 2 is more punishing when you feed your enemies or vice versa; it is most gratifying for your deaths. So you can count this however you want; rewarding or punishing. Eating and being fed really matters in Dota 2, more than in LoL and HoS. Don’t make stupid mistakes, your enemies can (and probably will) make the most of your stupid mistakes!

* Items are very important

In Dota 2 you have to choose your items very carefully, some items are really hard to come by, you have to save a good amount of gold without dying, you also have to deal with the micro courier controls when you have enough gold. Most of the usable items almost change your hero and match mechanics! Also, your enemies will do their best to avoid being killed and you have to farm carefully, it is not easy to buy items, so make sure you buy the best item according to your budget. Make sure you buy the item that you can get the most out of.

* Selection of hero and goal

I know you’re thinking it’s important to LoL and HoS too. Well … Not all of us attend tournaments, not most of us are “Challenger”. I myself am Diamond 3 in LoL, 2.5K MMR in Dota 2 and 25 in HoS. I can say that I never chose to calculate “counterattacks” in LoL or HoS. In fact, most of the time I chose what I wanted! But in Dota 2 this situation is crucial even for 2K MMR. If you want to increase your chances of winning, you have to consider your enemy team and make a good choice. There are even times when choosing the right role is not enough, it is necessary to choose a specific hero for certain reasons.

League of Legends Features:

* Clean graphics and animations

You really wouldn’t want to discuss this with a Dota 2 fan (not a fan but a nerd), but I don’t endorse either side here! I am a fan of all 3 games. And yes, LoL graphics and animations are cleaner than Dota 2. If you are a LoL gamer, give Dota 2 a try and you will see that the streaming animations are slow. You will miss many last hits until you find out! This is the same for skills.

* Community problem

There’s no need to hide it from ourselves, we all know that underage kids are the majority in the LoL community until you hit the diamond and finally get rid of most of them. Although Riot works hard to improve this community, I don’t think it will be as good as the mature Dota 2 community in the near future.

* Not so punishing

As mentioned, we do not assume that we are in a tournament! We assume that we are average players. So from this point of view, League is not very punishing. 2 or 3 kills early in the game don’t change anything, it’s not that hard to fix, especially with the help of your teammates. It’s a perk for the assassin, of course, but not as crucial as in Dota 2. And even if you’re better than your enemy, you can’t get a huge lead with early kills like in Dota 2, I just have to keep it.

* Many heroes

Riot used to create more heroes / champions once, then slowed us down a bit, but there are still a lot of champions in League compared to Dota 2 and HoS. And it will always be that way unless 3 games change their strategy about it. Okay, you can’t play some of them at higher rankings because there are better options, but I think Riot will fix this balance issue in the future and I hope there will be more champions to play at higher rankings.

Heroes of the Storm Features:

* Lots of maps for ranked matches

You know that there are various types of maps and different games in both Dota 2 and LoL. However, HoS is separate from them because there are many maps for CLASSIFIED matches. You queue for a match and you get a random map no matter if it is a ranked or normal match, I think this is great and this makes the game very dynamic. Sticking to just one map can be boring, don’t you agree?

* Events are important

While playing HoS you have to dominate the event area, you have no other chance to win. This is another beautiful feature because believe it or not, that means more teamfights than Dota 2 or LoL, even for low-ranking matches.

* One for all, all for one

Another feature that I love. As in Dota 2 and LoL, there is no such thing as “feeding” or “being fed”, at least as an individual. In Heroes of the Storm, you don’t level up as an individual; everything that team members do is a contribution to the team’s well of experience. When he reaches enough experience points, all team members level up. Just avoid being too far behind the enemy team when leveling up, especially to get the most out of it. Because, in a team fight, it makes a big difference to have 1 more talent point.

* There is no gold cultivation, no articles or last hits.

Shocking, isn’t it? Blizzard tried something new and in my opinion it’s working pretty well. No need to chase the last hits. Some of you think this is bad, while others think this is perfect. Well … I’m not a fan of the last hit system.

* Selection of hero and goal

As long as your team has all the necessary roles, you will be fine. Don’t forget to consider that some heroes are clearly better than others.

* Different skills and talents

I almost forget it! In HoS, you are not limited to 4-5 abilities awarded to your champion. You start with all your active and passive skills and this makes the game a lot of fun even at the beginning. Then, you choose one of several upgrades when you level up. All heroes have last 2 and you choose one of the ones you want when you reach the required level. In this way, you can combine different abilities and play the same hero in several different styles.

Conclution:

All these 3 games have their own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. And the truth is that while some people see a feature as an advantage, others may consider it a disadvantage. Yes, taste comes in all forms, each his own.

And sorry, I didn’t want to keep this article for long, I just hope you think it was worth reading.
